Gene Simmons (born August 25, 1949) is an Israeli-American rock musician and businessman. He is well known as "The Demon", bassist in the hard rock band Kiss. In his own words, "Bass played the right way can be a very, very aggressive instrument. It doesn't necessarily have to be melodic, although I've always tried to play melodies against the chords... take the bass out of the mix and see how heavy the guitar is. It sounds broken up. Without bass, you ain't got heavy."
